Monaco USB Solar Charger

The Monaco Solar Charger for USB devices is an affordable and easy way to charger your devices while you’re out and about. Sporting a built-in 1800mAh battery, you can quickly charge your devices either via the battery, or through the natural power of the sun. It costs just $39.95 from WirelessGround.com, so anyone will be able to afford this great product. Read our full review after the jump!

First, the packaging! Inside of the box, you get:

the solar charger

a USB wall charger

a mini USB cable

a 3.0 DC USB cable

a mini USB to DC adapter

a micro USB to DC adapter

There are a couple different ways of charging the device. One of those ways is to plug it directly into a power source, such as the included wall charger or your computer via the mini USB cable. Or, you can charge the product directly using the sun. Simple place the solar charger in direct sunlight, and you’ll see a red light come on. This means that the device is charging. It will turn green when the battery is fully charged. This charger does take a while to be fully charged, somewhere near 5 hours when plugged directly into a power source or around 8 hours when using sunlight.

But just because the device takes a while to charge the battery doesn’t mean it takes a long time to charge your actual devices. When charging an iPhone 4, it took approximately 1 hour and 18 minutes to charge the iPhone from 56% to 100%. That’s not too bad. And considering the solar charger’s battery is 1800mAh and the iPhone 4′s is 1420mAh, this will theoretically double the battery life of an iPhone 4.

The design of the solar charger is quite nice, coming in the form of a newer smartphone (?). As mentioned earlier, this will work with virtually all devices that can be charged via a USB cable. For a large list of what’s compatible, click here.

Overall, this is a great product. It’s priced right, does what it’s intended to do, and it does it well. There are a number of great uses for this device. For example, if you’re out at the golf course all day and would like to charge your phone while playing, this is great. You can also be at the beach and start charging your device without having to worry about whether or not the battery from the solar charger has any juice. This really is a great product, and I would easily recommend it to anyone who’s planning on charging their mobile devices while out on the go.
